Variations
of sunshine from month to month in any area are usually small,
approximately one hour. Differences, however, are much greater
between coastal and inland stations. Maximum
day-length occurs in June when 13.2 hours of sunshine are
possible and the minimum day-length occurs in December when
11.0 hours of sunshine are possible. However, the mean sunshine
in mountainous areas is less than 6 hours per day, while in
coastal areas it is near 8 hours per day. The shorter duration
in the hilly areas is caused mainly by the persistence of
clouds.
